It is coming up on 4 years that my family and I have been in our new home. We bought out first home together as a married couple and bought new construction. Being a first time home buyer was a whirl wind of decisions and delays. But through it all I learned a lot and was so thankful for our amazing Realtor. She was not only a trusted family member but she was on top of every challenge and step in the process.

After going through this process it made me appreciate real estate professionals more for all of the behind the scenes details that they take care of. This was part of my motivation for getting into real estate and becoming a Realtor. Top 5 Reasons You Should Try Bone Broth

About a year ago I decided to look into making my own bone broth to help with digestive issues and heard it was good for your overall health.  I found it very easy to make. Now I literally could go through the whole process in my sleep. Most of the time it really does cook while I am sleeping and I wake up to a house smelling of delicious broth. To this day my husband and I both drink broth every morning as a nice start to our day.

What is the Rush?

I have been noticing lately that people’s most famous excuse for not taking care of themselves is that they have no time, or it takes to much time to get results. I am here to say, what is the rush? We all have the same 24 hours which could end at any second, for any one of us, correct?

It’s time to do a couple exercises and become more aware of what your day looks like, how you can improve it for the better and stop rushing!

Start today- grab a small notebook or piece of paper and write down everything you do today and the time spent doing it. For example:

  • woke up at 7 am
  • got the kids up and dressed and fed 7:45 am
  • drove the kids to school 8 am
  • ate a granola bar and some coffee 8 am
  • checked Facebook while in my car waiting in school line 8:30 am

Record as much as you can for a better view of your day! Do not judge, think about what you should or should not be doing, just do what is natural and THEN we will talk 🙂

Now ask yourself these questions.

  1. How much time do you spend taking care of other people daily?
  2. How much quality sleep do you get per night?
  3. How much do you think, plan or prepare what you are eating each day?
  4. How much time do you spend doing chores around the house?
  5. How much time do you spend scrolling on your phone, watching TV or working on the computer?

Ok now answer the 5 questions above again but with actual numbers- you have 24 hours in a day. How many hours are you spending on the 5 activities?

Which of those activities above do you think are time wasters? How many are time embracers?

I believe these are the most important time embracing activities you should focus on each day and how to fit them in.

  1. Sleep– yes, you may need to adjust your schedule, tell your spouse you are going to bed early, use some tools to help calm yourself down and relax at night but it is SO IMPORTANT to get 7-8 hours of REM sleep at night. Improve brain health, prevent disease and improve overall mood and energy levels are all things that will happen when you sleep well.
  2. Nutrition– for YOU and your family. If you take the time to meal plan each weekend for an hour you will SAVE TIME during the week and be eating healthier choices for everyone.
  3. Plan Every Week– Always have a plan and then you will not be totally derailed when you need to adjust because of an appointment, missed bus, sick day or extra school project that has to be done NOW. Anticipate what you can and be ready for changes
  4. Movement- Getting up and moving during your day is very important for your brain and your body. Especially in this day and age when so many of us sit at computers all day long. Add a timer to your day that makes you get up and take a quick walk break every 30 minutes and you will see a huge difference in your mood and energy levels. Once you can fit this in then find 30 minutes every day to really get your heart rate up and you will feel awesome 🙂
  5. Stillness- Taking the time to be still. Meditation, reading a book, a quiet spot in your home just to sit and have some tea. It is important for you to slow down and take a deep breath especially on those days when you think its not possible.
  6. Let Go – As we go through life there are so many things that we have control over. There are also things that we do not have control over. Another little exercise, What are some of those things?
    • You have control over your thoughts, your food, your choices and your actions
    • You have control over your daily schedule and who you are friends with
    • You do not have control of other people’s thoughts, choices or actions
    • You do not have control of Mother Nature

IMG_6433There is another whole aspect of rushing which is the “fast, easy and cheap” mentality. Some people only look for things that make life easier and the faster they can get things done the better. I am here to say uh STOP!  Ever hear the quote ” Great things take time”  “Patience is a virtue”  “Hard work pays off”   I need more people to bring back these actions. Enjoy the process of life, take the time to enjoy it and be proud of the hard work that it takes to make something like you GREAT!


Time to Create Change

Change the way you think about foodSo it has been a little while since I wrote anything in here but that is pretty much because I am a person of few words on a normal day, but today is not a normal day. I feel like I could shout this stuff from the roof tops it’s so important!

Food and the way Americans specifically use, abuse and overindulge is a crazy problem. It is making me come out of my shell and say, time to wake up everyone!  For the last couple years as many of you know I have been building my knowledge about health and nutrition and really been experimenting with how things make me feel individually.

A couple things I have come up with is that my skin does not like dairy, my stomach does not like too much gluten, sugar or dairy, and my brain really loves and hates sugar at the same time. So I wanted to go in even deeper to WHY this is happening and what certain foods and chemicals actually do to your body.

So in that journey of trial and error experimenting with foods, listening to podcasts and reading books, I was recommended to read this book “Eat to Live” by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. and boy has the veil been lifted off my eyes. I was pretty aware of what I was eating anyway, but the idea in America that you must have dairy, animal protein and whole grains in your diet to be healthy is a bunch of BS. Not only do you not need them, but most of the time they are what make you sick! Nevermind all the other s#&* that is in the stores now.  It makes me really sad that a lot of people in America have no idea how to eat healthy because they were either taught wrong, or they are not taught at all.

We are a country of quick fixes and medications that are killing us, and you know how we can stop it? It’s as easy as eating a salad, biting into an apple, peeling a carrot, cooking a squash, stir fry some zucchini, and enjoying some berries.  I know some people literally would die before eating a diet of mostly vegetables and fruit but would you really let it get that far? There is proof that eating a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes and minimal whole grains will reverse the effects of Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Reduce to risk of stroke and heart attack, and prevent the risk of cancers.

Eating always seems to connect with emotional and social activity in this world. We all eat and then look forward to the next time we eat. We eat when we are sad or happy, celebrating or mourning, you name it, there is food everywhere!  If we all try and take a step back, get through a week of no processed foods and no dairy or animal protein you might be amazed at the results.  I know I was.

After eating only vegetables, fruits and legumes with some starches like sweet potato and whole grain rice, I felt 100% more clear headed, more energetic, less bloated, had less sugar cravings and was satisfied! I did have to go through a withdrawal period of 2-3 days, which included headaches, and a little tiredness but I knew it was going to happen and prepared to get through it. This is a change in the way you see how food interacts with your body, helps it heal,  helps you learn better and helps you manage stress.

The last point I want to make is about the kids. Yes the future of this country! We as parents can no longer sit back and say oh well, my son won’t eat anything but chicken fingers, french fries and treats. That is securing his fate to be a diabetic on his 13th birthday. We need to step up, EDUCATE ourselves and our kids. Bring them into the kitchen, have them cook with us, have them learn about food, have them see, try and taste a variety of foods all the time.  Some will kick and scream at first but if you don’t give up they will get over the withdrawal just like us and start to acquire new tastes. It feels so much better and they will be able to learn, live and THRIVE the way nature intended them to.

I strongly recommend you read the book “Eat to Live” and many more books similar to it. Educating yourself, trying new things to see how you feel and paying it forward by helping other people you know will change lives for the better.


A Miraculous Morning? Yes please!

win-the-morning-940x675About 2 months ago I listened to the podcast, “Achieve your Goals with Hal Elrod”. It inspired and intrigued me to think how I could accomplish so much more just by getting up a little earlier each day.

Now, I am the type of person who sleeps wonderfully and enjoys every minute I can get, so the idea of getting up an hour earlier than I do to accomplish some of my activities left me pretty hesitant and nervous that I would fail immediately!

So I prepped, I envisioned, I told myself I could do it, I layed out all my clothes for the morning, got my ipad ready, my water bottle full, every little thing I could think that may derail my morning I took care of!  I went to bed that Sunday night thinking about how awesome the next morning would be, and how much time I will have in the afternoon to spend with my family, dog and outdoors if I get this workout done in the morning.

I woke up at 5:00 am ready to rock! I was excited! That is weird for me, for sure… But I rolled with it, and got up exactly how I pictured and killed it down in that basement and felt amazing!!

So do you know what I did that next night? Yup! Prepped again, told myself it was an awesome day one and it will be an even better day two!  So I have been continuing this everyday during the week for about 2 months. The weekend I wake up earlier than before but not 5:00 am, I am not that crazy!  I also went on a vacation where I did wake up earlier than most people and took a nice walk, but was a little different that my normal morning for obvious reasons.

Why am I telling you about this one extra hour I gained in my day? Well, it has not only saved me some time in the afternoon, but it feels so great to workout in the morning. I thought in the past I really liked my afternoon workouts, but the morning is so peaceful. I am not worried about missing out on anything else going on, I am totally focused and feel that energy boost all day afterwards.

Not only am I getting my workout done in that extra hour but I am also taking a few quiet moments outside (while my dog goes to the bathroom) and drinking a cup of bone broth to keep my gut health in check.  Then while I am in the shower I speak to myself with positive thoughts about the day and how I am going to make it great!

I know this all sound very woo woo to most people as it did to me when I first listened to a couple podcasts but then I said why not? Why not try this and see how I feel? Could this help me be a better version, a more positive version of myself?

When the Best Idea is to Stop Searching

So I say this for a few different reasons. Living in the world today we have so much information at our fingertips 24/7. This is a blessing and a curse at the same time in my opinion.


When I hear about the newest type of “diet” to be at your best I look it up. I am always thinking what can I do better, eat better, add to my routine to make my life better BUT then I realize that all that information just clutters my head with stuff and adds confusion to my day. In reality, I should just listen to what my body, my mind and my surroundings are telling me to do.

I just tried the Ketogenic way of eating. It had some great points and I totally understand why it works and is great for your body. I tried it for two weeks and am not going to stick with it. I felt great and was not hungry but in real life with my family eating different foods and snacking, it was really hard for me. Plus how are you supposed to completely get rid of sugars and carbs in your day, every day?! I am a chocoholic, if you give me one piece of dark chocolate at night with my tea, I am a happy camper. If you tell me “never again!” I will eat an entire cake, and the ice cream that goes with it.

I think for me and my family the best way to deal with everything in life is to keep it simple. The foods we eat, the household products we use, the belongings we have, the places we go, the entertainment we choose, all of it! Simple choices that make us feel good is the goal!

I am growing a garden this year big enough to feed the neighborhood! I am so excited for that, and cannot wait to sit in the garden and just relax. Weeding and watching the world around me, that makes me happy! To some that may sound like torture, which means you still have to find that simple happy place that is right for you 🙂


Having that garden also means that our diets will include all sorts of awesome fresh vegetables! This gets my whole family pumped up! Even my 13 year old is excited to try a cucumber that he watched grow right in the front yard, and you can totally taste the freshness! My goal this year to is keep the garden growing year round. I bought a book that will teach me how. I will read it while I am in my garden 🙂

So I basically need to put my phone down, not worry about all of things I could be doing that might be great ideas for me and just do what I know makes me feel awesome 🙂  If you feel the same, write me a comment! I would love to hear where your simple happy place is in your life!


Live Simply

148912_10151698981070277_218670908_nOver the years, I’ve learned a lot about the steps of moving towards a simpler lifestyle and today I thought I would combine the best ones for you in this article. I’m not saying these steps will be easy or that they are something you can accomplish in a week, but with dedication, you will be able to soon see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Create a morning routine. This simply didn’t matter to me when I was younger and now I understand just how important and necessary it is! Without a calm, positive morning routine, my day will feel stressed and negative. The morning is my chance to set the mood for the rest of the day. I start with a quick affirmation or meditation to say today is going to be great! If the weather is nice I will take the dog for a  walk in the woods, and it is a successful walk if we find water that she can take a quick swim in. My goal in the morning is to have the house mostly picked up, dinner planned, and breakfast is the same thing every morning, quick and simple, scrambled eggs with a little cheese and half an avocado. I also love to have music on in the morning, it gets the whole family ready for a great day!

Kick the clutter to the curb. And I mean really kick it all the way out of your house. Every time the seasons change I like to do a little assessment of what the heck is in the closet. We create bags to donate items and guess what, we don’t miss a single thing! Take it in pieces. Clean out one room at a time and then a few months later, do it again. Keep cleaning out until all you have left are the things you feel are beautiful and the things you really need. I do not own anything that I do not use less than once a season. Everything has a purpose or significant meaning. This is a very difficult step for many people, but I assure you that it’s 100% worth it.

Only do what you can.  If you have too many things going on in your life that when you make it to the end of the day you wonder what happened, it’s time to cut the excess. Keep a schedule of what you do in a full day and then look over it the following day. Consider areas that can be simplified or cut out completely. If it’s creating stress it’s possible that it’s not worth it.

Clean as you go. I could not picture living a simplistic lifestyle without this step! When I’m baking or cooking, I’m always cleaning as I go. (And usually with my non-toxic cleaners made with essential oils) This prevents me from getting to the end of the project and being so tired that I don’t want to clean up or from telling myself I’ll clean it up tomorrow and then it doesn’t get done. Tomorrow is just as busy as today. Clean up as you go!

Skip trips to the store. Do you occasionally find yourself running to the store for just a few things? I have been doing this more often again and it’s time to stop. Not only are you wasting time and gas money on something that you probably don’t need right away, but you are adding in extra stress by being in the mindset that you need everything or can’t make do. In the pioneer days, pioneers would only make the trip to town after creating a large list. They knew how to do without and that to have those items would be nice, but they didn’t need them right away. They made do until it was time to go to town again, and when they did get there, they would stock up to have plenty to get them by until next time. The next time you need something, don’t make the trip to the store, make a list and wait until you have a nice long list before you make that trip.

Make a simple stockpile. To go along with the above step – make sure you have created a simple stockpile so you don’t run out of those things that you use all the time. I am not saying you need an entire bomb shelter of canned goods on hand, just if you do a lot of baking make sure you have a couple bags of those ingredients that you use often. If your family eats a lot of beans, buy the 25-pound bag instead of buying the 2-pound bags. You can get plenty of tips on building your stockpile here.

Meal plan. This is a big one and one of my favorite tips of all time! Meal planning is an incredibly simple way to make sure that you are not only planning every bit of your grocery money, but it also stops the daily, “What’s for dinner?” question. It only takes me about 10 minutes each week to create my meal plan. If you have trouble creating a meal plan and grocery shopping list of your own, I highly recommend either the 21 Day Fix eating plan or just using the free Beachbody meal planning guide online. Both are very affordable meal planning services that can save you a great deal of time!

Minimalize your clothing. I never realized what a relief it was to have less clothing until I really cleaned out my closets. I’m not saying that you need to only have a handful of items to wear, but keep only a small, strategic amount of outfits that can be put together quickly. No more sorting through the closet deciding what to wear and no more unending piles of laundry to do. Learn more about creating a minimalistic wardrobe here. Here’s a quick tip…buy yourself some nice wooden hangers and only keep the amount of clothing items for the wooden hangers that you have.

Remove the negative things in your life. I think this is the hardest step, but it’s also the most important. Negativity has no place in your life. All it does is cause stress, anxiety, and issues. It’s easy to get sucked up in the drama and the craziness of this world and hard to remove yourself from it, but I promise, it’s very, very worth it. The next time something negative crosses your path, decide if you really need to be involved or if there is something you can do to remove yourself from the situation. Yes, sometimes that means un-friending a continual drama queen on Facebook or maybe something as uncomfortable as telling a family member that you need to have your space in a situation. But, like I said before when we started chatting about these steps – not everything on the path to simple living is easy, but it’s worth it in the end.

Our lives aren’t perfect and they never will be, but I fully believe that we can live a slower-paced, simpler lifestyle no matter what. It’s all in the choices that we make along the way.

There is Only One You

One of my goals in the new year is to take better care of myself, both in my personal and business life. As a creative entrepreneur, it’s super easy to spend all of your time and energy working on your business that your health falls to the wayside. I’m guilty, for sure! Today, I’m sharing several healthy habits I’m striving for. As you read, I encourage you to think about what you can begin to carry out in your day-to-day.
This is the easiest habit you can get started on right away. Drinking plenty of water has tons of benefits like controlling headaches, improving your skin and keeping you energized. One of my latest goals is to drink at least 60 ounces of water each day. Ever since I started doing this, I noticed increased stamina and ability to focus on my business. Amazing what a little water can do!
I’m sure you’ve heard of this one before! Weight loss and healthy eating are some of the biggest industries out there. There are new diets popping up daily. Eating healthy needs to become a lifestyle change for more than just a diet change for periods of time. If you have not found a portion control system that you enjoy yet the 21 Day Fix containers are really great! Think about taking it one week at a time and making habits that continue throughout. Do not restrict yourself but keep the treats in moderation and be honest with yourself when things are not going so well. Make the effort to eat whole and natural foods most of the time! Much like staying hydrated, eating healthy has many benefits like reducing stress, increasing productivity and helping you live longer.
I sit behind a computer for the better part of the day, which means I don’t get moving around until I get home every night and get to my gym! I love working out in my home. I know it is not for everyone but I love it and it works for me and my schedule. Streaming workouts On Demand and using DVD’s are what works for me! If you have not found what works keep trying all sorts of things, yoga studios, home DVD’s, fitness gyms, personal trainers, Zumba classes, the list goes on!
If there’s anything I’ve learned in the pursuit of owning my own business is that sleep should be NUMERO UNO on the priority list. Your brain needs that time to clean itself and reset for another busy day. If you have problems sleeping I would highly recommend you tell your doctor and see a sleep specialist because losing sleep can do long term damage to your very important brain.
This is a fun habit to keep! I firmly believe that you should never stop learning, especially if you own a business. Even more so if you own an online business, because the internet continues to rapidly evolve. I like to invest in e-courses, webinars and conferences relevant to my industry in order to stay on top of my game. I also have enjoyed reading books such as You are a Bad Ass, and The Go-Giver.
